Life’s pretty darn good for Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho right now. The Chinese city in which he operates isn’t the sexiest but does it matter when you’ve surpassed Las Vegas as the casino capital of the world and are able to attract as many VIPs as you like on a regular basis? “It’s all gravy, baby” should be registered as his trademark saying.
His company SJM Holdings announced an impressive set of figures earlier this month meaning Mr. Ho had quite a bit of disposable income with which to spend. In the past, he’s shown a penchant for fruit that smells like decomposing flesh, but thankfully it looks like that was just a passing fad. Either that or he’s simply moved up the food chain – right to the very top to be exact.
Truffles have long been the preserve of high society and the tycoon certainly didn’t want to be left out. Ho spent $330,000 on two white truffles from Tuscany, Italy, the same record price he paid for one three years ago. All we can speculate is that Ho is the world’s slowest eater such was the gap of a year between his annual purchases.
