Wagner continues to confound everyone as Paije leaves

wagner-x-factorThis weekend’s X Factor provided another stay of execution for the Brazilian Wagner who has shown more resilience than anyone in the history of the show. He can’t sing, and seemingly can’t speak English that well but still manages to leave Simon Cowell speechless on a weekly basis. This is all to the surprise delight of his mentor Louis Walsh who bobs around as if an excitable leprechaun. The question that is now coming out of everyone’s favourite Saturday night hate-figure (X Factor, not Wagner) is will we actually see the Brazilian crooner win it all?

In order to gauge just how far Wagner may go in the competition we sought comments from two of the industry’s top bookies.

Charlie McCann, Head of PR at StanJames.com, is certainly at odds to explain how he’s still in the show.

“One Direction are now vying for favouritism at 15/8 with Stan James with Matt Cardle who has been market leader since we began betting on the event,” McCann said.

“Cardle, the poor mans Olly Murs, is vulnerable although he has certainly gone up in my estimation as a result of, allegedly, having an altercation with the appalling Wagner. How the latter is still on the show beggars belief but Cowell and his chums can’t have it both ways. Did he really deserve a place on the show in the first instance?”

Ladbrokes have also been taking bets on the annual talent competition, as spokesman Alex O’Donohue told us: “We have been toasting both Katie & Wagner’s ability to evade elimination from the X Factor. Surprise eliminations Aiden & Paije were also significantly higher in the outright markets than these two, however, the longer they remain, especially Wagner, the longer we sweat as we have seen takers for the wacky Brazilian at all rates from 100/1 down to his current price of 20/1.

“In the outright market, Matt Cardle, Rebecca Ferguson & One Direction appear to be pulling away as the contestants the punters feel will make the final three. Matt has clung grimly onto favouritism despite surges for One Direction, and most recently Ferguson who has been backed into 3/1. Cardle currently trades at 7/4, with boy-band One Direction the 2/1 second favourites who are subject to significant support as they remain Simon’s only hope of success.”

It remains to be seen whether the Brazilian can win it outright but who’s not enjoying watching Simon Cowell get madder as the weeks go by? Who knows, eventually he might realise that the X Factor has had its time and we don’t care anymore. I know…very wishful thinking indeed.
