As far as we can tell, the online poker multi-tabling benchmark was set at this summer’s EPT Monaco by Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier. For an hour, ElkY juggled an impressive 62 tables, setting a Guinness World Record in the process. Let’s hope ElkY viewed the recognition as sufficient reward, because he walked away with a grand total of $23 profit for his troubles.
If we were to ask fellow Guinness record holder Alik Gershon what he thought of ElkY’s feat, he’d probably call the Frenchman a lightweight. Gershon, an Israeli chess grandmaster, played 523 simultaneous chess games over 19 straight hours on Friday in Tel Aviv’s Yitzhak Rabin Square. Incredibly, Gershon triumphed in 454 of these matches, lost only 11, with 58 ending in a draw, for a stunning 86% success rate. (Seriously, someone teach this guy the rules of Texas Hold ‘Em ASAP.)
Trouble is, Gershon’s feat usurped that of an Iranian grandmaster, Morteza Mahjoob, who previously defeated 397 out of 500 opponents. Great… Like these two countries need another reason to dislike each other.
