Commerce Casino hosts Poker For A Cause charity

The gaming industry is always looking for ways to give back to worthy causes and poker has always been a good vehicle for this philanthropy. Poker is one of the less forgiving games for reckless gambles, but when the money is going to a charitable cause, it’s a little more encouraging for players to take big risks, which makes charity poker events extremely fun and exciting.

Commerce Casino will be playing host to the Second Annual Children’s Institute Poker For A Cause event taking place on October 23rd in Los Angeles. The players will be competing for a prize pool of more than $15,000, a seat in the 2011 World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational on February 18th, which will also be held at the Commerce Casino.

To say this event will be star studded is a huge understatement. The event will be hosted by Emmy award winning actress Camryn Manheim who will be joined by the likes of household names like Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander, former Saturday Night Live superstars Kevin Nealon and Cheri Oteri among other big named stars and poker pros.

This event addresses one of the more pressing issues in our society. According to The Children’s Institute website, there are more than 50,000 reports of child abuse and neglect reported each year in the city of LA and over 43,000 police calls for domestic violence issues that affect children. Something has to be done, The Children’s Institute is an organization that advocates for children in violent situations, such as domestic violence, child abuse, and neglect and the money raised from this event will go towards helping those victims and preventing other children from harmful situations.
