Well the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board can put another notch in their belt, the city of Philadelphia today has officially become the largest city in the United States with casino gambling following the opening of the SugarHouse Casino. And how sweet it will be for Philadelphia with its population of 1.55 million, to have a brand spanking new casino with 1,600 slot machines and 40 table games.

It didn’t happen overnight, but later is better than never. After a five year process, SugarHouse Casino is finally a reality. The casino opens its doors today and representatives are expecting thousands of gamblers to attend the grand opening.

The process to get this operation off the ground wasn’t as sweet as sugar, Board Chairman Gregory Fajt said he’s excited about finally getting SugarHouse off the ground after all the delays which were mainly attributed to litigation from community protesters, government agencies and disgruntled bidders. The protesters aren’t going away anytime soon, they never do, but the silver lining in all this shouldn’t be missed, not only is Philadelphia establishing itself as a gambling mecca, but the casino will create some 850 jobs which is more than significant given the struggling US economy and the skyrocketing unemployment rate.
