Most 14-year-olds are more bothered about bunking off school, have just started to discover the opposite sex, and lead a sheltered existence away from the media. Not in Holland though. No surprise then that 14-year-old Laura Dekker is preparing a round-the-world trip, which began earlier this month as she successfully sailed from Holland to Portugal with the assistance of her supportive father.
The next leg takes her across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal to the Pacific, across to the Galapagos Islands before heading to Australia, Thailand, and through the Gulf of Aden and back to Europe. She’s got around two years to complete the trip to break the record, and I’m sure being Dutch she’s got a little something should it get hard along the way. Read more.
