Macau 001Macau is known for its casinos, nightlife, clubs, karaoke bars, whiskey, green tea and hookers. Some even say that Macau is the Vegas of the East! However, I’m not so that is true when it comes to nightlife, but I have a feeling a lot has changed since I was in Macau in late 2007.

Luckily it looks like I have the opportunity to re-evaluate as I am returning to Macau next week to cover the iGaming Asia Congress…and enjoy the nightlife with attendees and the Ayre Heads while I’m at it. For those of you who would like to join me, I have prepared an official conference party itinerary and a list of suggestions for which bars, nightclubs, karaoke joints and strip clubs that I think we should hit after. To quote Pentasia’s Rob Dowling who will be in attendance as well, “Trust me Becky, the nights will be fierce”. My friends, this could get ugly.

We’ll start with official iGaming Asia Congress organized activities.

The conference organizers have arranged a post masterclasses/pre-registration cocktail reception from 5-7 on Tuesday, February 23, right in the expo hall. This should be a great opportunity to make some new friends, make some juicy plans for the week, and you can conveniently grab your conference pass so you don’t have to do it hung over the next morning.
Where: Grand Hyatt Expo Hall
When:5-7 PM

Wednesday evening starts off with drinks in the expo hall sponsored by First Cagayan Converge Data Center from 5:30 followed by the official “Shanghai Nights” iGaming Asia Congress party beginning at 8pm. The Shanghai Nights party will feature a local Chinese singer, hot Asian dancers, a Philippino band and the setting will resemble a Shanghai street in the 1930s, complete with hostesses, food and of course, plenty of booze.
Where: Grand Hyatt Expo Hall
When: Cocktails at 5:30, Shanghai Nights party at 8pm
Dress Code: Shanghai chic! I’m serious!

So here’s where the real fun starts- the extra curricular post conference activities. Macau is actually full of a lot more options than I thought, including everything from loungy bars to nightclubs to karaoke bars to strip clubs. Lets take a look at some options for all of the above, shall we?

Loungy bars.

Cinnebar
Trendy lounge and cocktails, relaxing and luxurious. I like it.
Address: G/F, Wynn Macau, Rua Cidade de Sintra, NAPE, Macau

Bellini Lounge
Friendly crowd, posh but welcoming, lots of space, live local bands, big Wednesday night spot AND ladies drink for free on Wednesday, so…lets go on Wednesday!
Address: 1, Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel, Estrada da Baía de N. Senhora da Esperança, s/n, The Cotai Strip, Taipa, Macau

Nighclubs.

D2 (DD2)
I have been here before, and it is fun. This is THE place to go between the hours of 3am and 6am, but do not arrive before 2am or else you will be the only one there. This place is a hidden secret…literally…the entrance to the club hides inside the second floor of a very corporate looking building. Get ready to exit from that same corporate building when the sun is up and not a minute sooner.
Address: 2/F AIA Tower, 251A – 301 Avenida Comercial de Macau, Macau

D3 (DD3)
Do not confuse D2 with D3, a club which I will not even bother providing the address for because unless you are Chinese, you have no business going to this place (I made this mistake in ’07…it was awkward).

Lions Bar
Apparently this place is “a guaranteed party” any night of the week and features loud music, resident bands from Canada and USA, it’s a popular ex-pat hangout, and please get there early if you want a table.
Address: MGM Grand Macau, Lote A do Quarteirão B2 da Zona B, Nape, Macau

CUBIC
Rumor has it this is the most prestigious club in town and is known for its expertise in global music, world-renowned DJs, and a very stylish and colorful atmosphere. If you want to see celebs, this is the place to go. We’re going.
Address: 2/F AIA Tower, 251A-301 Avenida Comercial de Macau, Macau

Fashion Club
This nightclub and karaoke bar in one is known for its sexy dancers who dance with the patrons, DJs from Hong Kong, dance shows throughout the night, so clearly if you want to dance, this is the place to do it all night long.
Address: Block I, Trinidad, Fisherman’s Wharf, Macau

Karaoke bars.

2046
This Karaoke Bar is in the heart of Macau’s Karaoke Bar District. Karaoke Bar District? What? We’re going here.
Address: G/F Hotline Building, 466-470 Rua Cidade de Santarém, NAPE, Macau

Energy
Energy has the largest rooms, newest equipment and the most booths in town. I don’t know a damn think about Karaoke or Karaoke equipment, but sure, sounds great.
Address: 67-77 Av. Dr. Francisco Vieira Machado, Macau

Strip Clubs.

Crazy Happy Show:
I don’t know, I just like the name of this one. Crazy Happy Show is one of the “hottest” dancing shows in town and it is “aimed at those with a slightly crazy and wild streak”. Hmmm…sounds interesting.
Address: 10/F, Golden Dragon Hotel, Rua de Malaca, Macau

Playmate’s Club
I like the name of this one too. The picture looks a little seedy, but apparently lap dances are available with the Eastern European exotic dancers, so it can’t be that bad.
Address: Guia Hotel, 1-5 Estrada do Engenheiro Trigo, Macau

As long as Rob does not end up nude in a hot tub in the middle of the room like that party in Vegas in 2005 everything should be OK. I think I still have his underwear someplace from that party ;-)
