Hot on the heels of Google Buzz is Microsoft with this recent announcement that Outlook will now work with LinkedIn, Facebook, and MySpace. Social Media (Community Sites) are used more frequently then email itself (Nielsen Research PDF) globally, so it was just a matter of time until this happened. It makes complete sense to, why not just allow the functions of life to exist in an already proven environment. Which is exactly what Google did with Buzz and Gmail. I’m not a PC or Microsoft fan myself (Apple fan boy) but I know the majority of the world still uses PC’s so this announcement has huge implications to communication both externally and internally. I for one am surprised that it took this long to happen, considering the explosion in this space and the de-centralization of traditional media to peer to peer networks.
Keep your eyes on Microsoft, they may be up to some cool shit in 2010!
