Man, oh Manfred. There’s nothing worse than crying into your pint and bleating about your lot instead of getting off yer arse and doing something about it.

My owner Calvin Ayre, who ain’t backwards about coming forwards when it comes to speaking his mind, recently shot a video in which he discussed the virtues of public, as opposed to private, companies in the global online gaming industry. In short, there ain’t none. Watch the video.

Manfred Bodner, the CEO of Bwin, responded to this by resorting to name calling (private companies are ‘illegal,’ he squealed) and self-pity (I am into ‘free markets’ as long as they are free for everyone). Fack me, he might as well have said ‘dresses’ instead of ‘free markets’. Come on, Manny. Where’s the fighting talk, son? Where’s your Braveheart spirit? That was more Jessie Wallace than William Wallace.

You see, the problem for poor Manny is that his company went public a long time ago and the public market place doesn’t give a flyin’ monkey’s arse if the “playing field” is flat. Trust me, all that is factored in when they value the shares – making adjustments to the reality of the “field” so to speak.

Manny’s soapy piece diagnoses his problem well enough, and the heart bleeds, it really does, but where’s his fuckin’ solution? It’s all description and no bloody prescription mate. Like having the vet tell you you’ve got ball cancer and buggering off before telling you what he’s going to do about it.

So Manny, dry those eyes and see the bigger picture. You know deep down that really you support Calvin’s view. Public companies belong in the online gaming industry like a bra in a wet tee-shirt contest. If all companies in the sector were private, we’d all be alright – at least it would cut down on all the pissing and moaning.
