It seems that the powers that be in the Big Apple have decided it might be a good idea to build a casino in New York.
No, seriously, what are these Yanks thinking? Don’t they realise what a dangerous idea that is – allowing New Yorkers to think for themselves and that. We all know that building a casino will only see everyone develop terminal gambling problems, slip into the sewer of social, economic and moral depression and turn the town into the new Gomorrah. Fuck me, they’ll be getting rid of prohibition next.
Personally, I always find it was quite amusing that old Uncle Sam has all these ludicrous anti-gambling laws. Well, you see gambling’s bad for you, innit – so there’ll be no gambling. At all. Apart from them little boltholes in Nevada. Oh, and them other ones in New Jersey. And a few on Native land. And you can’t bet online neither. No way. Unless of course you fancy a quick game of poker at Full Tilt or PokerStars.
Anyway, just to clear up any uncertainty about why a casino might be coming to New York… it’s all because Barack Obama’s government, who are smartly looking for new tax revenues, decided on Tuesday that the Shinnecock Indians on Long Island meet the criteria for federal recognition, marking the end of a 30-year court battle paving the way for the tribe to pursue its plans for a casino in the city.
Either this is about as clear as mud or I spiked the wrong drink when I gave Calvin his Bloody Mary this morning. And if you think I’m making it up read this to see if you can make head nor tale of it. It’s proper done mye ‘ead in.
All I can say is it serves them Americans right for deciding they could run their country on their own in the first place, right? Wouldn’t have had these problems if they’d stuck with the Empire, would they? Plenty of casinos in London last time I looked. Not to mention online gambling websites. I’m just messin’ about, but it is better late than never mate. Right, I’m off to play a cheeky Sit&Go before ‘Er Indoors gets back.
God save The Queen and God bless New York City.
