Beijing is stepping up their internet regulation with a much stricter policy on the registration of domain names. Now anyone wanting to register a domain will need to present a business license and company seal to the China Internet Network Information Center (a regulatory body backed by the Chinese government). At the request of this regulatory body, internet providers must investigate any users who have requested a domain.
While officials say this filter is designed to decrease pornographic content online, critics say it’s simply a more effective way for the Chinese government to enforce internet censorship. Ah communism. Read more…
