It was only this week that we found out that by 2012 the country could double its iGaming turnover, and today they’ve finally announced that the cash poker and casino market in the country is ready for lift off.

According to eGaming Review, the cash games decree was finally passed into law last night that will mean that operators who are already licensed will be entitled to offer cash poker and casino games to the Italian public.

The cash games will be subject to a gross profits tax of 20% and they have imposed a maximum allowable buy-in for skill games, including poker, played online and at public terminals of €250.

After we saw a legal challenge last year from Microgame over the original draft, Giulio Coraggio explained that it has hardly changed from that.

“The published decree does not implement any major change to the draft previously notified to the European Commission, but we will have a better understanding of the scenario following the adoption of the implementing bulletin circulars from AAMS.

“In any case, this is good news for current operators and new entrants in the market as things might rapidly moving as hopefully also the decree on the new licenses will be approved in the next month or so”.

The Italians have this down by the looks of things, and will be hoping that they see the maximum return possible on their investment.
