Click to Undress

We’re almost half-way through 2012 and while the past four months have come and gone faster than you could say “the Mayans are coming!”, we’re thankful that we still have the rest of the year to abide by our credo of drinkin’, gamblin’ or carryin’ on.

Speaking of such, we’re more than happy to present our featured Ayre Head for the blooming month of May, a foxy and stunning woman that shares in our everyday pursuit of happiness. Gentlemen, please give a warm-blooded welcome to Kristen D.

The Westlake, Ohio native has been sizzling our TV screens for quite some time now, having appeared in a number of shows, including Femme Fatales, House, Entourage, and CSI: Miami. She’s also made a name for herself in social media, thanks to her involvement in a number of skits from Funny or Die, as well as appearing in plenty of web series’ throughout the years.

What makes Kristen D such a certifiable catch is she’s more than just a pretty face with a smokin’ hot body; Kristen D is also a certified genius, a “Cum Laude” from the University of South Florida with a degree in Criminology and an eye-popping 3.63 GPA. Intimidated yet? On top of her academic par excellence, she is also a member of a number of National and International Honor Societies, including Pi Gamma Mu, Phi Sigma Theta, and Golden Key. We’re not too sure what that last one is, but it sounds impressive just by the name it goes by.

In her spare time, Kristen D is the picture of athletic versatility. Try competing against her in a whole range of sports and activities and you’re more than likely to get shamed out of your pants. Whether its gymnastics, kickboxing, swimming, or even ice skating, Kristen D has the skills to match her looks and smarts.

So even if the Mayan prediction does come to bear and we’re left to see our destruction at year’s end, we can at least find comfort in knowing that for the month of May, Kristen D made us forget of our impending doom.

Kristen D is one of the many beautiful and sexy Ayre Heads we’ve had grace our pages in the past. To check out all the other hot vixens that have shared this stage, do visit our Ayre Head Gallery. And remember, try to keep the drool from hitting your keyboards.

Tablog reporter gets new gig

Congratulations are in order as CalvinAyre.com’s very own Dana Workman will be starring in a new reality TV series alongside the son of the man that used to devour the heads of live animals – Jack Osbourne.

Paranormal Highway is a new reality series from the team over at BASE Productions. They’ve been working on reality TV offerings since 2006 and this is likely to carry on with their stellar work in the reality TV sector.

The show itself is slated for a summer 2012 release on SyFy and will see Dana and Jack journey across America’s “remote back roads” in search of the most disturbing claims of paranormal activity. It will feature reams of eyewitness interviews and evidence collected by “state-of-the-art equipment” as they aim to get to the bottom of the creepiest of paranormal events. The road trip will see Jack and Dana travel across the country alone in what is described in the release as “harrowing”.

Dana has history in the travel sector having been co-host of HDNet’s Get Out! travel program and has been all over the planet with the CalvinAyre.com tablog team. She first came to the attention of the site some time back and became a part of the furniture almost 18 months ago when she won the CalvinAyre.com Reporter Contest.

Most of you are used to seeing Dana at iGaming’s exclusive parties and secretly hoping that one day she’ll offer to buy you a drink, so make sure you get in some paranormal-themed chat up lines at the next conference session. We’re not saying they’ll ever work but it’s worth a try.

We can’t wait to see this hit the screen and please join us in congratulating Dana on her latest gig.

Online gambling film upon us

A new film with online gambling at its heart is in the offing with Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck rumored to be the two stars. Runner Runner is being directed by Brad Furman and, according to the Daily Mail, “tells the story of an increasingly tense relationship between a business founder and his protégé”. Timberlake has already “finalized” his deal to act in the film and The Hollywood Reporter names Affleck as another who will star. Leonardo Di Caprio has been touted as someone that will be involved and it’s likely it will be a role behind the scenes.

Indiewire is quoted as saying the film will be “set in the high stakes world of illegal online gambling” and comes from the screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien. To those that are thinking, “who the eff are these guys” the two were responsible for 1998 thriller Rounders. That film involved high-stakes backroom poker and this film is likely to delve into the world of online poker – with some horseracing thrown in.

Runner Runner will have to go a long way to beat the runaway success of Rounders, which is thought to have made over $20 million at the box office. It got much praise from some of that play poker with poker pro Vanessa Rousso admitting: “…Rounders really captures the energy and tension in the game. And that’s why it stands as the best poker movie ever made.”

Furman’s film follows a year in which Lay the Favorite was filmed and based on Beth Raymer’s life as a professional gambler. It received mixed reviews at the Sundance festival and there will be some more hopeful that Runner Runner has more success – especially since Rounders was so popular last time round.

Bettors body-slam Wrestlemania 28 odds

Remember when we posted a story regarding Paddy Poker releasing Wrestlemania 28 odds last week? Well, it turns out that they weren’t the only ones that dropped lines on the “Showcase of the Immortals”.

The fine folks over at Sky Bet also offered odds for Wrestlemania 28 and to their surprise – us too! – the action for the annual extravaganza was more than what anybody expected. According to Sky Bet, Wrestlemania 28 became the third most popular betting event of the day, only exceeded by a pair of – no surprises here – Premier League football matches that featured Newcastle United’s dismantling of Liverpool and Tottenham’s beatdown on Swansea City.

Ben Wright, Sky Bet’s resident pro-wrestling analyst, said that while expectations for the lines for Wrestlemania 28 were high, none of them could have anticipated the amount of interest it ended getting from fans and punters alike. ”We were bowled over by the amount of interest and buzz around the odds and all in all, it was a very successful first foray into wrestling betting,” Wright said in a statement.

“We look forward to locking horns with the punters at next year’s WrestleMania!”

Despite the overall success of the event, Sky Bet still had to sweat out a couple of heavy underdogs pulling of surprising wins, including Kane’s – the underdog at 9/4 odds – rather shocking upset of Randy Orton courtesy of a choke slam. Likewise, the main event fight between The Rock and John Cena, the most heavily-bet match on the card, ended up on the plus side of bettors after the People’s Champ, heavily bet on by punters at 5/6 odds, Rock Bottomed his way to a clean win over the Leader of Cenation right in his hometown of Miami, Florida.

About the only match that saved Sky Bet from being in the red for the whole card was the Undertaker / Triple H “Hell In A Cell” match. Thinking that they were getting great value on Triple H – the line actually moved from 13/2 to 5/2 – bettors pounded on the Game to score the huge upset over the Deadman, effectively putting that first “L” in the Undertaker’s impeccable 19-0 Wrestlemania record. But just like all Wrestlemanias he had been involved in, ‘Taker wasn’t to be denied, finally vanquishing Triple H in grand Tombstone fashion in a match that lasted just under one hour.

Overall, Sky Bet managed to break even for the entire card. And even if they lost on some heavy underdogs, the level of interest surrounding the event was an overwhelming success in its own right, enough, even, for them to already start looking forward to Wrestlemania 29!

Despite its presupposition to having staged finishes, the WWE still attracts crowds like no other entity in the sports entertainment business. And with the overwhelming interest surrounding the betting lines for the Wrestlemania 28, it looks like the WWE is going to start drawing in fans from the betting demographic.

We Love April Fool's!

The Boss loves a good April Fool’s prank. This year we decided to play a little prank on the lovely women of the gambling industry. As you saw yesterday, we announced that we would be making a new addition to our Ayre Heads; adding men for the women to ogle.

We won’t be having male Ayre Heads on the site. It’s not that we haven’t genuinely considered adding men but chalk it up to cold feet or the fact the we just love beautiful women so much more.

We like to have a little fun this time of year, if you remember last year, we played a joke on gambling industry veteran Scott Longley. The idea was, with the help of some public company executives, Longley purchased CalvinAyre.com with the intention of making it a traditional, boring business news site. We changed the look and feel of the site, going so far as to remove Calvin and his iconic guns and fill the space with a boring old logo.

The year before that was probably our most notorious prank. Calvin’s nephew, mad at his uncle Calvin, leaked personal (pornographic) photos of his dear Uncle Calvin. Thankfully, the photos were Photoshopped and not the boss’s real deal.

Still more shenanigans:

• Calvin’s epic war with Hail Mary Sportsbook.
• Losing Bodog to Virgin’s Richard Branson in a hand of poker?
• Calvin’s “Space Casino“.
• Calvin’s reality show to find “Calvin’s Heir.”

I’m sorry to the women who are disappointed (if I had a nickel for every time…) but I’m sure most of our male readers are a little relieved they didn’t have to stare at Rocco’s bulging, er, pectorals all month.

Gentlemen, to make amends for putting a little fear in your hearts we have an extra special pictorial feature for the month of April: the beautiful, the talented, CalvinAyre.com contributor and Bodog Poker Pro, Miss Tatjana Pasalic.

This isn’t the first time @Tattytats has stepped in front of the camera. She is routinely voted one of the sexiest poker players in the world (voted number one in 2010, in fact). Honestly, she probably should have won in 2011 too, but we guess the voters got a little of that Michael Jordan MVP fatigue. We’re sure she’ll be number one again in 2012.

Thanks again for being good sports and do enjoy our REAL April Featured Beauty: Miss Tatjana Pasalic.

With some reservation and a lot of prodding from certain females in our organization, we at CalvinAyre.com are making some changes to our Ayre Heads. Beginning at the start of the month and every three months thereafter, we will feature a male Ayre Head model.

We receive loads of comments, mostly from men about how they LOVE the women on CalvinAyre.com. The Girls section is routinely one of our most popular pages; unfortunately, we’ve received some critical feedback from the women in the iGaming industry saying it’s sexist and we should get rid of the girls.

We love women and we especially love the women in the gambling industry, so although it wasn’t my favourite idea, we have enough supporting data to convince us that featuring male models on our site will increase our female demographic and open up other advertising opportunities.

Lead on-camera reporter and long time industry insider Rebecca Liggero is a big supporter of the plan, “I had a conversation with another female professional recently – she was upset and felt that women are constantly objectified within the online gambling industry. Seeing as our industry is male-dominated and sex always sells, it’s highly unlikely that anything is going to change anytime soon. Rather than fight the inevitable, I find it’s better to embrace it and simply ask for the same in return – male objectification for online gambling industry females.”

Here’s a sneak peek at our first model Rocco V. You’ll be able to see his full pictorial at the beginning of the month. Rocco is a former water polo player, likes working out, camping and reading Deepak Chopra books. Rocco describes himself: “My friends say I’m like the big guy (Mr. Big) from the Sex and the City show but I don’t own a television so I don’t know if that’s good or bad.” Enjoy ladies.

One last thing; we feel that the title ‘Ayre Heads’ doesn’t exactly fit what we’re trying to do so if you have a better name for our male model features, please feel free to put your suggestions below in the comments. Perhaps we’ll use the best nickname as the men’s new moniker.

Wrestlemania 28 odds from Paddy Poker

Paddy Poker is not one to shy away from laying down lines for curious events, no more so evident than their now famous “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” line from the Simpsons that ended up catching them, in their own words, “with their pants down.”

We bring this up because Paddy Poker has just posted lines on Wrestlemania 28, headlined by John Cena taking on the Rock. Under normal circumstances, such as in MMA or boxing where one-on-one slobber knockers aren’t predetermined, professional wrestling is exactly the opposite. Results are already determined days – maybe even weeks – prior to the actual event and anybody with a good head on their shoulders to score spoilers will more than likely rake in and once again catch Paddy Poker with their trousers down to their knees.

Then again, scavenging the Internet looking for these spoilers is easier said than done considering that WWE plays it extremely tight for their pay-per-view events, let alone their biggest moneymaker of the year, Wrestlemania.

Having said all of that, let’s dive into the odds. The main event is John Cena versus the Rock, the current top-biller of WWE going up against the former superstar who left to make movies about Scorpion Kings and Tooth Fairies. According to Paddy Poker’s line, Cena is listed as the favorite with 8/11 odds compared to even odds placed on the Rock. For a showdown that’s being billed as the “Once in a Lifetime” Match, those odds are pretty on-point.

Meanwhile, the co-main event on the card is the Hell in a Cell Match between Triple H and the Undertaker, the latter putting his “impeccable” 19-0 record in Wrestlemania matches on the line against the very same man he beat at Wrestlemania 27. Throwing a monkey wrench into this whole match is Triple H’s forever partner-in-crime, Shawn Michaels, serving as the special guest referee, although we all know that he’s going to play a much bigger role than just counting the loser’s shoulders on the mat. All that said, Paddy has made the Undertaker an overwhelming favorite at 1/7 odds, hinging on the Deadman hitting 20-0 in Wrestlemania. Meanwhile, Triple H plays the part of the huge underdog at 4-1 odds – and that’s taking into account HBK’s presence inside the Cell.

Other matches with lines from Paddy Poker include WWE Champion CM Punk going up against “Y2J” Chris Jericho for the WWE title and who gets to claim the “Best in the World” t-shirt. The line for that has Punk a clear favorite at 1/2 odds with Jericho bettors getting 6/4 odds.

Then there’s World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan taking on Sheamus for the Heavyweight Title. Apparently, WWE has two champions. Who knew. Unlike the Punk-Jericho throw down, Paddy Poker actually has Sheamus – the challenger – as the favorite to win the match and bring the title back to Ireland with a 1/3 line. Poor Bryan, right? Getting no love with a 2/1 line despite being the champ. We feel for you, Danny Boy.

And if you’re not content with these four matches, you can also make some nice wagers on the Randy Orton – Kane match, with the Apex Predator – that’s Orton – slotted as the favorite with 2/7 odds against the Big Red Machine – that’s Kane – who’s getting 9/4 odds. Finally, there’s the Big Show versus Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Title with the former being favored at 4/6 compared to the latter’s 11/10 line.

So there you have it, folks. Paddy Poker’s Wrestlemania 28 lines are now up and live. Are these lines primed to be spoiled? Or will Paddy get back some of the glint they lost after Maggie Simpson shot Mr. Burns at 500/1 odds?

We’ll find out soon enough!

Weirdo baby man

There are those among us whom we all fear – murderers, rapists, and the like. But then there’s those who are just plain weird.

Stanley Thornton is one of those people. Why? Because he’s spent the last 18 years of his life as an adult baby. No, not in the way that he acts like a child when drunk, or likes to get his own way – that would make him terribly typical.

The fact is, for the most of his adult life – Stanley has been a massive baby, wearing nappies and romper suits, sucking on dummies and sleeping in a super-sized cots.

And how old is this man you ask? He’s 31.

Stanley – who revealed his favourite age is two – shed some light on his behaviour when he recently said in a report by The Sun: “I feel like when I’m wearing a diaper, it’s like a constant hug from mommy. I think about acting like a baby every day. For me it’s a big part of my life — it’s something you can go to bed doing.”

Stanley is 5ft 6, weighs 21 stone and is from the USA. He’s kitted out his home with a playpen, crayons and a giant high chair where he eats his meals. He even gets his baby clothes tailor-made, including pyjamas and a special blue romper suit.

He added: “I feel having a crib is the most important thing. The bars, they signify safety and it’s something babies have when they are growing up.”

When asked by the paper if it gives him a bit of a kinky kick, he replied: “It’s not sexual at all. It’s a feeling of being safe. It’s a feeling I didn’t have while growing up — and being an adult baby became my way of coping with the world and my own problems.”

At least that would have made him mire interestingly weird. This guy is just a complete nut. Not to mention that he is currently searching for a full-time mum.

It’s times like this when we should really question society, and wonder when it got so fucked up.

GC may force shows off the air

Television broadcasters have blasted the UK Gambling Commission, declaring it “has no right” to be poking its nose into harmless TV shows” over the saga to ditch games it suspects are “glamorising” gambling”.

For the past few months, TV game shows aired in the UK, such as Simon Cowell’s Red or Black?, have been suspected as “glamorising gambling” as the commission has recommended a tightening up of TV game show regulations.

Now it appears that Channel 4’s hit Deal Or No Deal is also in the Commission’s firing line as it investigates whether some TV game shows in the UK constitute gambling because they feature no “element of skill”.

According to The Mail on Sunday, if the shows’ formats are found to involve gambling, they will be forced off the air.

A government source revealed: “The Gambling Commission does not seem to think that there is any skill element to the show. Even though at the beginning of the show, contestants do not have to stake any of their own money, the argument is that once they’ve picked a box, which could contain a lot of cash, in subsequent rounds they are in effect gambling with their own money.”

Senior broadcasters are said to be outraged at the news, with one source telling The Mail: “This is an absolutely ridiculous state of affairs. The Gambling Commission has no right to be poking its nose into what are harmless television programmes. How can anyone regard Deal Or No Deal as gambling?

“It is probably the most innocent show on television. I think it’s very telling that this programme is aired in 30 different countries but only in Britain has this become an issue.

“You also have to look it from the point of broadcaster. They are already heavily regulated by Ofcom. Why on earth would they want to also come under the control of the Gambling Commission as well?

“That means they would be answerable to two different regulators who would be looking into its affairs. The people who make Deal Or No Deal want to operate as a television production company not a casino.”

Simon Cowell’s spokesman, Max Clifford, commented on the news: “Simon wants to come up with the most exciting combination he can which remains within the rules. His view is that it is a light entertainment programme with a gambling element – not what the Commission is claiming.”

A Channel 4 source added: ‘People are very worried. The producers don’t want to be tarred with the gambling brush’.

Who would role in "Calvin Ayre: The Movie"?

It’s fair to say Calvin Ayre’s life has seen its fair share of antics, and that’s just since retiring.

From being featured as Forbes Magazine’s ‘billionaires’ issue cover-boy and named as one of People Magazine’s 50 most eligible bachelors, forever throwing the sickest parties - to the more recent bombshell which dropped last week that the feds had indicted him – it’s evident Calvin, who grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan, Canada, has a past worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster.

But we’re sure you’ve heard all the stories before. Nevertheless, our readers must have felt pretty passionate about who they thought should play party legend Calvin Ayre in a film about his life because our poll asking that very question was our biggest yet.

Here are the results.

Voted at the very top spot was crazy Charlie Sheen, and as vice president of the gamblin’, drinkin’ and carryin’ on club – we couldn’t think of a better person to play the role. WINNING!

Face-off star Nicholas Cage was voted second with almost half the votes as Sheen at 31%. Is it Cage’s suave nature and cool sensibility that makes him the second best man for the job?

“Himself” was voted as third most popular with 17% of those polled believing Calvin himself would do a much better job. Funny boy Ben Stiller came forth with 12%, lady killer George Clooney grabbed a mere 11% of votes and good ol’ Northern Irelander Liam Neeson polled last with just 6% of the votes.

So we got the perfect guy for the role, now, when we going to start shooting the movie?

A man blew 200k on what is being called the most expensive round of drinks ever. As a fully fledged member of the carryin’ on club, the anonymous big spender splurged on of one of the most expensive bubbly bottles known to man – a 30-litre double Nebuchadnezzar of Armand de Brignac Midas. The vast vessel of bubbly weighed 45 kilos, cost £125,000 and took two members of staff to carry to the trader’s table in the Liverpool club PlayGround.

Onlookers gorped at the mystery business bloke – believed to be a foreign exchange currency trader in his twenties – as he shelled out another £60,000 on an assortment of other drinks for him and his other ten mates, including regular-size bottles of the expensive bubbles as well as two 4.5 litre bottles of Grey Goose vodka at £2000 a go.

It was the bar staff’s lucky day as his final bill of £203,948.80 included an £18,540 tip.

Nightclub boss George Panayiotou ordered the DJ to play the iconic opening music to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey — Richard Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra as some poor waiter lugged the hefty bottle out to the table.

One clubber said: “The club went wild when he popped this huge bottle of champagne, and they were handing out glasses of champagne to everyone in the VIP room. This guy was phenomenally generous and was buying everyone in the place a drink.

“The party went off with a bang and everyone was toasting this guy’s generosity. He was there with about ten friends on a private table but after the big bottle came in they were mobbed by gorgeous girls. There must have been about 60 of them at any time vying for his attention and he then ordered shots for every single woman in the club.”

Borat reigns at Oscars

Silence was golden at the Oscars as French silent-film The Artist was awarded five gongs and was the first of its type to win an Oscar since 1929. The Michel Hazanavicius director flick won best picture, best director and best actor. The dog, Uggie, was left to wonder WTF was going on around him and why were all these French people cheering as if presented with clove upon clove of garlic.

Other big winners on the night were Meryl Streep who vowed to “drink a lot” in the aftermath of being named best actress. Atta-girl Meryl! Martin Scorcese’s film Hugo was the only film that matched the French silence by winning three golden men. The evening almost belonged to Jennifer Lopez as her dress was close to revealing the two puppies that looked as though they were more than eager to escape. That was all before a Cambridge University graduate took centre stage.

Sacha Baron Cohen has been one of Britain’s most controversial comics for some time and hasn’t looked back since exporting his brand to the U, S and A. He hadn’t yet properly raided the Oscars for all this worth…until now.

Cohen chose his moment right as he dressed up as star of his new flick The Dictator and managed to scarper an interview with Ryan Seacrest. Not that it really matter who took the interview but the American Idol host was in the right place at the wrong time. Seacrest chatted away to Cohen whilst the star of Borat and Bruno explained the contents of the urn he was holding. When questioned he said of his “doubles tennis partner” the late King Jong-Il that it was his “dream to come to the Oscars and be sprinkled over the red carpet and Halle Berry’s chest again.”

At this point he decanted the contents over Seacrest and the red carpet before being escorted by security but the deed was done.

It made you think what the point is on in spending on a lavish advertising campaign when you can get coverage on the red carpet during the Oscars for less than a hundred bucks. Maybe Cohen took a page out of the book of the audacious publicity hungry machine over at Paddy Power. Who knows. What we can be sure of is that Cohen’s newest offering will be here soon and it’s certain to create fierce debate across the globe.

HBO's Luck Treats Its Gambler Character Fairly

Rare is the piece of art that treats gambling as just one factor among many that makes up someone’s personality. If gambling isn’t a throwaway plot point or, worse, the root of all a person’s problems, it’s often glamorized to the point of completely losing touch with reality. That’s why I’m hooked on HBO’s series Luck: it does away with those lazy approaches to gambling characters and instead examines the lives of people who engage in it. Its gambler characters are allowed to be three-dimensional characters with rich interior lives, putting it many steps beyond most of the gamblers who have ever been shown on television or in film.

Luck is the creation of David Milch, the man behind such lauded series as Deadwood and NYPD Blue. Far from being just another project for the celebrated writer/producer, Luck is the product of Milch’s lifelong love affair with horse racing. His father began taking him to Saratoga when he was just six years old, and he has owned two different Breeders’ Cup-winning horses of his own. “It’s a subject which has engaged and some might say has compelled me for 50 years,” Milch told Variety back in 2010, when the show was still in development. “I find it as complicated and engaging a special world as any I’ve ever encountered, not only in what happens in the clubhouse and the grandstand, but also on the backside of the track, where the training is done and where they house the horses.”

Milch’s passion for the subject bleeds through nearly every frame in the form of an ardent dedication to realism. The show’s action revolves around Santa Anita racetrack in Arcadia, Calif. (often called “the most beautiful race track in the world”), which served as the actual shooting location for the show’s first season. Some of the show’s poker scenes were shot at Larry Flynt’s Hustler Casino in Gardena, and the Commerce Casino is also mentioned when poker comes up. The character of Ronnie, an aging jockey, is played by Gary L. Stevens, a Hall of Fame jockey who won the Kentucky Derby three times, the Preakness Stakes twice and the Belmont Stakes three times. And numerous side players in scenes from the show’s many intertwined stories, from horse trainers to poker-room floormen and dealers, give off the vibe of people who got their roles on the show because of their real-life experience.

This dedication to visual realism bleeds over into the realm of the show’s characters. As gorgeous as the show is to watch – and thanks to the input of director Michael Mann, it really is gorgeous – it’s the emphasis on character that really makes it shine. The scope of Luck is wide enough to include characters from nearly every aspect of horse racing, from the track owners to the horse owners to the trainers to the jockeys, all the way down to the gamblers who bet on every race. All of them have their own stories, hopes, dreams and motivations, and whether or not they ever meet their lives are all tied together by the races at Santa Anita. And all of them are treated with equal importance, giving the world Milch has created a sense of coherence no matter which characters are on-screen at any given moment.

These characters feel like real people, perhaps none more so than the surrogate family of four gamblers who hit it big in the pilot episode. Disabled Marcus, gigolo Lonnie and unemployed Renzo are regulars at the track, as is skilled handicapper and mediocre poker player Jerry. When it comes to picking winners at the races Jerry is pure brilliance, but things don’t go nearly as well for him when he gets away from the horses and has to begin interacting with people at the poker table. He’s prone to tilting when needled, leading him to make poor decisions that only exacerbate his problems. When his group wins the Pick Six jackpot at Santa Anita and he suddenly finds himself able to sit down at poker tables with much higher stakes than he’s used to playing, Jerry’s tilt-prone nature becomes a major problem and he begins losing almost immediately.

Jerry clearly has serious issues when it comes to chasing his losses, as shown in his showdowns with restaurant owner Lester Chan. (In one of them, the floorman makes a ruling that allows Jerry to bet an extra $25,000 that wasn’t on the table at the start of the hand; once the cards are turned up, it’s revealed that Jerry has pocket kings, while Chan has Ah-Qh for top two pair on an As-Qd-8d flop.) And he also uses turmoil in his personal life – such as arguments with Marcus over how to use the money they’ve won – as an excuse to become self-destructive at the tables. But whatever his problems, Jerry is clearly also a man with great skill – it’s his picks that allow the group to win their millions in the Pick Six, and as bad a poker player as he may be he always has money to play because he’s so good at picking horses. Most importantly, Jerry has plenty of positive traits that have allowed him to surround himself with people who care about him – when he finds himself going down the rabbit hole in a private game with Chan, his three friends from the track show up to pull him away from the table.

Most gambling characters in film and television either have to be outsized villains or massive losers with all the complexity of an after-school-special. Luck doesn’t make this mistake, instead allowing its gambler characters to simply be who they are. They win, they lose, they make great decisions, they make mistakes – and in the end, they feel like people you know. When it comes to making great television, that’s a winning ticket.

Luck airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO.

The recent rebrand of Paris Hilton’s great-granddaddy’s founded hotel empire casino – the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel-Casino – doesn’t seemed to have stopped the sex tape renowned it-girl from hitting the tables.

Paris has always known how to celebrate in style, and her 31st birthday celebration this weekend was no exception. Doing what she knows how to do best; drinkin’ gamblin’ and carryin’ on – Paris hit the Strip on Saturday night and ended up at a blackjack table at the Wynn Las Vegas casino. Not only do online reports state she spent the night dominating the table, but according to her Twitter feed – she cashed in to the tune of $30,000.

Paris Tweeted shortly after her win ” Just won 30k playing blackjack at @WynnLasVegas! #YES! #BirthdayGirlsLuck! I love gambling! ”

As reported by News.com.au, she continued the birthday celebration at the XS Nightclub with sister Nicky Hilton and her parents. Also along for the party was Hilton’s rumored boyfriend, Afrojack, who deejayed at the bash. Bearing a sexy silver cocktail dress, Hilton partied at her table inside the club with what we are sure was a grin on her face worth 30 thousand smackers. Then again, with the failure of her recent Oxygen reality series, The World According To Paris, she could probably do with a big win.

Nevertheless, this girl sure knows how to party. She later added via Twitter: “Last night was the best birthday party I have ever had in my entire life! The most beautiful amazing extravagant birthday party ever! #YES!”

Naive couple say thanks to "donators"

If you found a bag containing 21 thousand smackers on your door step, what would you do? Not go to the police, right? Of course you wouldn’t, you’d run back inside and shove every last piece of those glorious green papers under your mattress, after you’ve throw it in the air and danced in it, that is. (We bet you’ve always wanted to do that.)

Well, reports today reveal that this isn’t what a boring old couple did when they hit the jackpot in this way. A report by The Sun states that Ian Roberts and his wife Pam Curtis handed 21 grand in cash to police after finding it, all in £20 notes, stuffed in a plastic carrier bag inside a wicker basket on their front doorstep.

Pam said: “I thought there was about £5,000 there but when we counted it out it came to £21,480.”

Ian added: “It was incredible. We called the police and when they came they said it could be drugs money.”

Although, it did work out for them in the end. Because no-one claimed the money after 28 days, the police gave the couple it back. Jammy buggers. What’s even more sickening is that the couple plan to put the money towards a “regeneration project” for a park opposite their house. Yawn. We’re sure you guys could have thought of many better ways to blow the cash.

Naively setting themselves up for an eventual break-in, the couple have put a thank-you notice in their window just in case the money was intended as an anonymous donation. The sign’s subliminal message? – “Thank you thieves for depositing your dirty drug money on our doorstep, here’s a reminder of our address and that we still have it, lot’s of love, Idiotic Ian and push-over Pam”.

Those words might have not literally fell out of the couple’s mouth, but in response to the money Ian did say: “We’ve had other donations but the most from an individual was £150.” Get a grip, man – chances are it wasn’t a donation. Anyhow, let’s hope the “come and rob us, we’re loaded” advertisement doesn’t attract too many dodgy characters to their door.

Sexy time socialite, Paul Withee

No one should underestimate the power of social networking sites such as Facebook, especially those who are dumb enough not to know how to use them properly, or in this case, the difference between a private message and a status update. A certain harebrained individual from Maine is one dude who may perpetually reap the consequences of such lack of wisdom.

The person in question is Paul Withee – a football coach and middle school science and maths teacher at Maine’s South Paris Comprehensive High School. Well, let’s rephrase that – the now unemployed ex-football coach. Why? Because when sending his girlfriend an early valentine’s gift in the form of a photograph revealing all he had last week – including his meat and two veg – he accidently posted it publically to all his friends. The picture was only online for the best of 10 minutes before Withee took it down, but that was long enough for one of his students’ parents to get a glimpse – which could only mean trouble.

The incident was reported by the parent to the school and Withee resigned from embarrassment before resource officers could begin an investigation. The sheer power of social media – a story like this tells us how a mere ten minutes of Facebook fame can cost you your career, let alone your dignity.

In a report by WMTW News 8, Superintendent Rick Colpitts said it is not against school policy for teachers to be friends with students on Facebook. But it’s not exactly policy for students to see their teacher’s family jewels either. Luckily, Withee is off the hook this time, as Paris Police Chief David Verrier says the department decided not to press charges because this was an accident. Nevertheless, he’ll always be faced with the shame that each and every one of his buddies knows what his old man looks like.

Facebook might tell us that, in the future, everything will be social. But incidents like this only tell us that not everything should be social (unless a pair of middle aged man’s go-nads are what float ya boat, of course).

How Crazy is Cole Turner?

Somewhere not in a parallel online gaming universe, this week was the fiftieth episode of the Cole Turner is an Asshole saga: our weekly spoof on the iGaming industry and some of its more colourful characters. After 16 months of outlandish comic strip stories depicting Cole Turner – who was, as you may know, Calvin Ayre’s alter ego for a number of interesting marketing campaigns – Coles swashbuckling antics are still followed closely by the iGaming industry via our weekly Comic Timings.

It wasn’t until quite recently that fans came to realise Cole Turner was more Character than CEO. The doubt must have crept in after a rather sensational adventure in particular portraying Cole in a river run through the jungles of Cambodia where he was taken hostage by some sexy Khmer Rouge operatives. Until this moment, Cole’s exploits had been somewhat believable, but as ridiculous as the hostage story was, people called customer service daily to learn the status of the CEO who scoffed at danger.

Nevertheless, here we are – celebrating the fiftieth episode of a parallel iGaming industry with social norms not quite like ours. And you know what? It gave us the excuse to ask you guys what you thought, and poll our readers with the question: “Cole Turner is… too crazy for me, not crazy enough or just the right amount of crazy?”

Interestingly – the results demonstrated a tie, with 38% of readers sayings Cole is just too crazy and another 38% saying he’s just not crazy enough. 24% of you said Cole is just the right amount of crazy. Does this mean these top two contrasting results cancel one another out, and suggest you all think he hit the crazy nail on the head? We think so – so we’ll keep up the good work. Here’s to the hundredth!

If you haven’t had chance to catch the Cole Tuner is an Asshole comic misadventure, then best start with the first episode.

Once you’ve thrown up from laughing after wading your way through every last episode, give our second poll a good seeing to: “When I play poker.I’d rather play with beautiful women, I want to play where the pros play or I don’t care where the pros play” to give us a further understanding of your stance on our poker pro: marketing suicide? piece.

UK gambling watchdog, The Gambling Commission, has knocked high-trousered X-factor judge Simon Cowell’s relatively new game show Red or Black? – demanding its format needs to change in the next series in order to stop “glamorising” betting.

A report by The Sun newspaper reveals the commission met with ITV bosses on Friday to complain their uptight little tits off that the success of the show encourages gambling by making it look “easy” to win on roulette. What ever happened to “you can’t control fate”?

A unknown source close to the talks told The Sun: “The Commission has concerns the show is glamorising gambling as so many people won £1million last time and did the best part of nothing to get it.”

This might be because over the seven episodes of the show’s season which aired in September last year, four people each won the top prize of £1million by picking either red or black. However, is their argument, which stems from them thinking the show makes it look “too easy”, flawed? You can in fact just bet on Red or Black on Roulette in a real casino, and most times it can be down to sheer luck.

Nevertheless, the sources said the watchdog wants assurances that contestants will have to “demonstrate some degree of skill” to win the cash for the show’s return.

Rules to block the show have not yet been affirmed by the regulator, that’s if Cowell doesn’t do what he’s told. But a source said: “Put it this way, if the Gambling Commission kicks up a big fuss about your show publicly, it is unlikely that you would go ahead with it.”

Is this regulation gone mad?

February Ayre Head

After what seemed like the longest month ever after the holiday season; January is finally over and to welcome us to the sweet bliss of a new month – a step closer to the glorious warmth and blooming of spring daffodils – we have something just as magnificent to heat us up while that time arrives…Andrea A.

Yep, you guessed it: Andrea A is our featured Ayre Head for the short but now sweet month of February. It’s okay though, this year we talked to the calendar people and they added an extra day so we can enjoy Andrea a little longer…

And if it is winter where you are, thankfully – this perfect bodied babe with the tightest jeans eating the tightest ass you’ve ever feasted your eyes on will ensure you’re kept hot and bothered in one of the coldest months of the year.

We can’t escape the fact this month is also a time of romance. That and, erm, pancakes. Perhaps giving shit up for lent isn’t your thing, but if you do celebrate Mardi Gras we’re sure batter mix won’t be the only thing you’ll be tossing if Andrea A has anything to do with it. Maybe lay off the hot cooking oil, though.

With February bringing the romantic day of Valentine’s, we just had to ask Andrea what she thought of the day of love: “Cliché” or “let’s play”? Andrea said she thought Valentines was a little cheesy, as she hates nothing more than a corny candle lit dinner, insisting it’s all about play. “It’s not a day to take too seriously”, she tells us, “but that doesn’t go to say you can’t make it fun.” And just how much fun, we’d love to know.

When asked the standard question: drinkin’, gamblin’ or carryin’ on, Andrea opted for all three. Wow this girl is wild. Apparently, a pint of cider, a fist full of casino chips and a glint in her eye is all this girl needs to see the night through. Thank fuck its February.

Scorcese's Hugo leads Oscars

Michael Scorcese leads the road towards next month’s Academy Awards as his film Hugo was nominated for 11 awards. The announcement was a surprising one as Hugo pipped the highly regarded Michel Hazanavicius film The Artist that only managed to get 10 nods.

One film that has been ignored by ceremonies that have taken place so far is the adaptation of Michael Lewis’ book Moneyball. The Oscars have recognized it with Bennett Miller’s film taking six nominations including one in the category, Best Picture. Alexander Payne’s The Descendants was expected to be The Artist’s biggest challenger and could only muster five nods.

The gaming industry has been unmoved by the nominations seeming to shun the notion of The Artist being the front-runner. Bet365 still has the silent film as short as 2/7 with 188Bet giving it odds of 1/4 with both books agreeing that Scorcese’s 3D masterpiece is drifting at 12/1. Baseball’s day in the sun might come in the shape of a Best Actor award for Billy Beane aka Brad Pitt. The odds on Pitt taking home the prize have drifted to 11/1 with Bet365 but he will find it hard with the favorite George Clooney, star of The Descendants, out in front at 4/11.

In the who will cry the Best Actress aka who will cry the most category, Meryl Streep’s performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady is vanquishing allcomers. Paddy Power has her at 4/9 to take the prize and you can find her as short as 1/2 with Bet365. Just make sure you remember to pocket a load of tissues before you get into the theatre!

The full list of nominations can be found here.
