Google, Bing…stop. It’s Hammer time.
‘80s rap star, MC Hammer, is planning to take on web giants Google, Bing and Yahoo with his own rival search engine – WireDoo.
Whether the name’s resemblance to the word “weirdo” is intentional or not, beats us. Something that we do know however, is it plans to offer something a little different to the rest. Maybe that’s why it’s called weirdo WireDoo?
The Hammer himself, who is actually, disappointingly called Stanley Kirk Burrell, told the world about it in an announcement at O’Reilly Media‘s Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. He said that the project is a search engine that will offer a level of “deep type of search” that Microsoft’s Bing and Google don’t offer.
So how will WireDoo, which is still in a closed pre-beta stage and not yet ready for the public, plan to offer a deeper, more penetrative search in to the cavernous pit of online information?
Well, in an interview with O’Reilly Media (which can be viewed via the clip below) Hammer explained that WireDoo enginge “crawls and the algorithm is designed in a way to get all of the related information to your query and then package it consistently in one environment”.
He added: “The engine…kind of thinking, right? The way you would think. If it’s a car … it’s not just about the word ‘car,’ but it’s about insurance, it’s about the specs, it’s about mileage, it’s about style, it’s about all these things. So that’s the way it works.”
Will his new venture hit the nail on the head? Not to mention Google’s head? We’re pretty skeptical. If we search the word “car”, it’s not very often because we want to buy one. Bing, which is considered Google’s biggest threat in the search engine market, is growing but hasn’t really come anywhere close to rivalling the big G yet, so it’s difficult to believe this will.
If anything, Facebook seems to be the only company giving Google a run for its money. Look at Facebook compared its to rival Google+. Now if Facebook was to launch a search engine, then we might see a bit of real search engine rivalry. What’s your opinion?
