Drum roll- The official nominations for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2012 have been released and ballots will be sent out to over 500 voters. The voters will pick and choose the artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but there’s one face paint wearing rock band that is yet again absent from the ballot this year.
Still, looking over this list there are some worthy nominees with classic albums and songs that never get old. Good to see the Beastie Boys getting their due.
The 2012 nominees are:
• Beastie Boys
• The Cure
• Donovan
• Eric B. & Rakim
• Guns ‘N Roses
• Heart
• Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
• Freddie King
• Laura Nyro
• Red Hot Chili Peppers
• Rufus with Chaka Khan
• The Small Faces/The Faces
• The Spinners
• Donna Summer
• War
In order for a rockband to be eligible for nomination, it must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.
Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation said about the nominees in the press release, “The 2012 Nominees embody the broad scope of what ‘rock and roll’ means.”
The winners will be announced on April 14, 2012, at the 27th Annual Induction Ceremony, held in Cleveland, Ohio, but yet again there is one noticeable snub from the list, the iconic rock band “KISS.”
I’m not the biggest fan of Kiss, I love their music and this is all about respect to a band that is still in the game.
It is puzzling how they haven’t gotten into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet. Kiss has been awarded 24 gold albums to date, which is the most of any American rock band. The band has also sold more than 40 million albums in the United States and their worldwide sales exceeds 100 million albums, and if longevity counts for anything, Kiss has been doing it since 1973.
You gotta feel for Gene Simmons. First marriage, now this.
