What can £500,000 get you

space hotelSpace travel is edging closer as ever as Russian engineers revealed plans for a hotel that could accommodate guests for five days at a time. There are plans to put a hotel into orbit 200 miles above the Earth by 2016 so that any Jetsons’ addicts can act out their wildest fantasies. “Hotel in the Heavens” will have four rooms and accommodate seven guests at a time where you can do as you please in the zero gravity atmosphere for just less than a week.

It’s not cheap though. If you’re looking at clambering aboard the 200-mile high club (there are no rules saying no nookie at a million footie) then getting there alone will cost you £500,000. The accommodation when you arrive is £100,000 for five days and there’s no option to pick out a budget hostel so you’re stuck with the expensive option.

Sergei Kostenko, chief executive of Orbital Technologies, explained, “The hotel will be aimed at wealthy individuals and people working for private companies who want to do research in space. A hotel should be comfortable, and this one will be.”

There was us thinking it was for the poor!

The experience will be quite restrictive as well. Guests are limited to consuming iced tea and fruit juices with meals limited to Earth-prepared food microwaved to perfection. Chef Ramsey would be apoplectic. With alcohol also not allowed the developers aren’t going to be getting anywhere near the gamblin’ drinkin’ and carryin’ on club anytime soon. Guests do get 16 sunsets and sunrises every day and the craft orbits the planet once every 90 minutes to give breathtaking view of the action down below.

Professional poker players or those in the gambling industry could well be some of those that could afford to spend a five-day sojourn in space. Imagine it now…the first time ever that a game of poker is played in space at zero gravity. We’d even call on Bodog or any other bookmaker to open the book on when they will first take place.

Samsung may have featured 2001: A Space Odyssey in their in the face of every case under the sun from Apple. The opportunities to travel into space are fast increasing and at some point soon an iPad may again be present in space. If they want us here at CalvinAyre.com to review the different space-related opportunities on offer then we’re happy to oblige…all inclusive of course and we want to bring our Ayre Heads!
