With Hurricane Irene bearing down on New Jersey, Atlantic City may be forced to clear out the hotels, get the people off the streets and out of the casinos and turn the town into a ghost-town.
So basically, things will be stat quo for a regular Friday night in the AC. Cheap-shot?
I’ve heard you’re supposed to hide underneath a table or in the frame of a doorway during an earthquake, but how do you survive a hurricane?
It’s actually a trick question, if the hurricane is too powerful, there’s not a lot you can do. But here are some things you can do to give yourself a chance:
1. If you can evacuate, board or tape the windows. Plywood is the best wood to use. Do not use duct tape. Use alligator tape.
2. Dispose of or eat all perishable foods 12 hours before the storm. When the power goes out, your refrigerator will stop working, and any meat, dairy, or anything that needs to be refrigerated, will spoil.
3. Make sure that anything you normally leave outside is either tied down or brought inside 6 HOURS BEFORE STORM.
4. Wait until at least 30 minutes after the eye of the storm has passed over before entering rooms with windows.
5. Evacuate- You don’t get hero points for sticking it out. If you can find a safe shelter, get there.
6. Bring your family and pets into the shelter 2 hours before the storm.
7. Don’t leave your shelter.
8. Purchase and use Self powered Radios and Self powered Flashlights. Batteries will be unavailable.
9. Glowsticks are safer than candles – all that rave partying finally came in handy.
10. Don’t try to get cool footage on your smartphone- The last thing you and your family need to have happen is for your hurricane footage to go viral on Youtube, because it also captures your last moments alive.
Personally, I’d also find a weapon of some sort to be packing as well, just in case you have to go I Am Legend style.
