Google yesterday unveiled its new Google Mobilize service. Using the Think Mobile conference in London, the global behemoth showed off the new mobile publishing tool that will let “anyone…create a mobile site in minutes, not days.” The service is aimed at small businesses and connects to Google Checkout meaning that it could easily be a tool that can be taken advantage of by firms at the lower end of the iGaming industry.
Google’s Android Market has seen app downloads increase more than four-fold over the last year. The company’s mobile ad sales director, Ian Carrington, told the assembled media that app downloads, which were at one billion a year ago, have now reached 4.5bn. They even mentioned that the last billion downloads took barely 60 days to tally up. We’re not expecting Apple to be quaking. Merely quivering ever so slightly. In terms of “mobile coupon-related enquiries” there has been an annual increase of 800% whereas 28% of smart phone users in the UK have actually purchased an item using their phone.
The company also used the same conference to announce that Android is activating 500,000 new devices each day. According to The Week, this is out trumping Apple who can only manage just less than 300,000 activation per day. Don’t forget that Steve Jobs’ company is only working with one device whereas Android are working with a shit load. The same article also projects that the number is on track to hit 1,000,000 activations per day by the end of October and that it currently holds 50% of the market in the world’s most populous country, China.
