Google+ launches and doesnt get through the Great Wall

Google PlusIf trying to take the mobile phone market by storm wasn’t enough, Google is now trying its hand at the social networking market. Yesterday’s announcement confirmed that they would be launching Google+ as a rival to Facebook and Twitter. Anyone looking to have a go should be warned – it’s currently one of those exclusive parties that you have little chance of joining. Even if your best pal is a member they can’t invite you for the moment, as the site is full.

We can hear you calling out asking what use is a social network that doesn’t accept people in? You’d be right there but Google Mail was the same when it started out and that has gone from strength-to-strength ever since.

The site itself is made up of three different elements. Circles will give users an easy way to share information with their close friends. Whether it is photos of you going on a midnight streak when drunk or the latest YouTube video you like the look of. Hangouts is based on the fact that you can have unplanned meetings with friends whilst online. So in other words it’s video chat on a social network platform. Lastly, Sparks is a service that suggests video, articles, picture and basically anything else that it thinks you may like look of.

It’s an important development also as it means that Android users will now have their own social platform that you can imagine will be fully integrated into any device that is released and software updates. That in itself will be important to gaming companies looking to develop the latest in social based gaming apps for smart phones.

Other news for the service is that China has already had enough. The GreatFireWallOfChina reports that China has successfully blocked the site in every major city across the country. Google obviously didn’t think they had any type of dispensation and it just confirms that they’re still dead-set on blocking most social networks.
