Mobile broadband is increasingly becoming one of the fastest growing mediums over which to access the Internet. When choosing a provider, most will look at price as the determining factor. Thankfully Ofcom has released data to show the provider that will be walking home with the gold medal/trophy/rosette.
The company receiving all the congratulatory Facebook wall posts today will be O2. They finished ahead of Vodafone, 3, and Everything Everywhere. It’s far-from clear cut though. According to the survey, it literally depends where in the country you are situated and when choosing a provider this should be taken into account. It was also noted that none of the providers was able to consistently reach speeds of 3mbps as advertised by the four major suppliers
17% of households in the UK regularly use mobile broadband and 7% rely on the medium entirely for all online activity. It’s still nowhere near the speed of fixed broadband and it’s likely that playing online poker on some connections would be particularly problematic. The same survey found that average page loading speeds were eight seconds when using a mobile broadband dongle whereas it was less than a second with a fixed connection.
Over in Asia, gaming geeks will be happy to hear that the PlayStation Network will finally be restored to certain nations. Saturday will see Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand restored. South Korea and Hong Kong still won’t see the network restored and a date hasn’t yet been set. Asian countries had had to wait as Asian countries requested solid proof that Sony had plugged the gaps that the hackers were able to get through originally.
