samsung apple newsSamsung’s war of sorts with Apple may well have calmed down slightly. It’s set to be reignited in just days as Samsung’s newest tablet is set to be unleashed on the burgeoning market. Mashable reports that Samsung’s mobile Twitter account has released details of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and that it’s only “a few days away.”

The new device will run the latest version of Android’s Honeycomb OS, Android 3.1. Its vital statistics are that it has a dual-core 1GHz CPU, 10.1-inch 1280×800 pixel screen with a 3-megapixel back camera and a 2-megapixel version at the front. It weighs only 1.3pounds and is .34-inches thick.

It has been designed to compete directly with Apple’s iPad 2, something that will rankle with Apple.

The furor between Apple and Samsung came about as Steve Jobs’ and co. thought that Samsung had copied the iPhone and iPad when manufacturing the Galaxy line of devices. To be fair to Apple the devices are remarkably similar but Samsung is just a part of the Android behemoth that threatens to take more of their share.

Talking of Apple, the App Store has now surpassed 500,000 approved applications. According to VentureBeat, since its debut in 2008 the store has paid out almost $1.4billion on revenue and users have downloaded 15 billion apps. This compares very favorably to the Android Market that only has an estimated 294,000 apps. It again reiterates why many in the mobile gaming space do all they can to get their apps into the App store and are not averse to waiting for many weeks.
