WPT news: Seiver has chance at Triple Crown; Seidel avenges earlier defeat

WPT Champ Scott Seiver Winning the final event of the current World Poker Tour (WPT) season gives champion Scott Seiver a chance at the big one. Entering the day in second place behind Galen Hall, he had a more than realistic chance at adding to his stellar record in the World Series of Poker (WSOP). That record has seen him pick up a bracelet and a total of 12 cashes. Seiver now waits until the European Poker Tour (EPT) in August when he has a realistic chance at picking up that aforementioned honor of the Triple Crown.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Seiver as Hall was leading for a significant period after an early elimination of Justin Young. Seiver took the bull by the horns after kicking Tony Gargano to the rail and didn’t look back. Hall took down Roger Teska before he himself fell victim to Seiver and it was down to heads-up between veteran Freddy Bonyadi and Seiver. The younger of the two disposed of Bonyadi and received the cheque for $1,618,000.

Erik Seidel wins WPT Super High Roller Aiming to take the limelight from the WPT Championship was the tour’s first-ever Super High Roller. After going down to two players late last week, the heads-up was unsurprisingly won by Erik Seidel. He had almost double the chips of second placed Erick Lindgren heading into the all out duel and gained revenge for the loss at 2007’s Aussie Millions Super High Roller. With the title Seidel takes home almost the same amount ($1,092,000) achieved by Seiver for around four days less work. Good work if you can find it eh!
