John Rich had arguably one of the most successful Celebrity Apprentice campaigns any celebrity has ever had on the hit reality show and for his efforts he was named the winner of Celebrity Apprentice 2011. But it wasn’t an easy win by any means.
Unlike a majority of the contestants on Celebrity Apprentice, John Rich kept it strictly business and kept strictly about raising money for his St. Jude Charity. Meanwhile, other contestants, namely Star Jones and Nene Leakes did their best to turn the show into a Jerry Springer re-run.
John Rich avoided all of that noise. He found ways to work around and with the “insane” or idiot savant Gary Busey and he raised over a million for the St. Jude Children’s hospital.
It was John Rich’s body of work that gave him the edge of the brilliant actress Marlee Matlin and ultimately won him the show.
For her part, Marlee Matlin also deserves high praise. Not only did she also raise over a million for her charity, but she had to endure being on the worst team, possibly ever assembled on Celebrity Apprentice. Team ASAP looked as though they were more concerned in damaging each other’s reputation and cat-fighting than they were with winning competitions. It was probably one of the first times Matlin actually enjoyed not being able to hear everything.
In the final challenge, Matlin gave her best, and in truth, her presentation of Retro 7up was flawless. That said, once again John Rich pulled the Trump card, pun intended, by raising $275,000 for his charity during the challenge, even though that was not part of the task. It seemed to be the deciding factor that put him into the winner’s circle.
Rich should have won anyways for getting Trump to risk messing up his hair by putting on a cowboy hat. I half expected the top of his head to go with the hat when he removed it.
This year’s Celebrity Apprentice may have done wonders for some sputtering careers. Everyone knows who LaToya Jackson is again and Star Jones and Nene Leakes feud has become excellent reality TV fodder.
