Samsung sues AppleIf Apple thought they were the only ones who knew how to fight dirty, then they really have got another thing coming. Only days after launching legal action against Samsung for what they deemed “slavish” copying of their devices, the firm has hit back.

The infringements involve five patents and are the latest in a string of disagreements involving Apple and others in the industry.

A statement from Samsung read, “Samsung is responding actively to the legal action taken against us in order to protect our intellectual property.”

Apple’s point that the Galaxy line of phones and tablets were remarkably similar to Apple’s iPhone and iPad was a legitimate claim as anyone who has seen them side-by-side will attest to. The lawsuits could easily hurt both companies though.

Samsung supplies a number of the main components used by Apple, such as chips and LCD displays, and with their launch of a 2GHz dual-core processor at some point next year Apple may have awoken the wrong beast.

Android and Appel lead marketElsewhere in the increasingly competitive mobile marketplace, app developers seem to be increasingly plumping for just two of the operating systems available. According to Moconews.net a recent survey of mobile software developers by Appcelerator and IDC revealed that most developers are more likely to develop content for the Apple iOS and Google’s Android.

“Before it was, ‘hey, I did my iPhone app, I’m done for the year.’ Now it’s like everyone has done their first app, that chapter is behind us, and now they need to think about the portfolio,” said Scott Schwarzhoff of Appcelerator

The two companies likely to be hit hardest by this are the creators of the Blackberry, Research in Motion, and Microsoft’s Windows 7 OS. The story indicated that these are being increasingly seen as “tier two” mobile platforms. Web-based services aren’t likely to be affected massively by this news but companies developing platform specific apps may think again about the direction they’re taking.

as long as samsung with stick with android, definitely they would be joining Apple at the top mobile OS entourage. RIM and MS Mobile are still young and BORING.
