Kentucky Derby in gambling industryIn just two weeks the Kentucky Derby, the fastest two minutes in sports will be upon us. Aside from the Super Bowl, the Kentucky Derby has no rival in its betting capacity. It truly is an amazing event and spectacle. Mint juleps, ridiculous hats and even more ridiculous outfits are just part of the fun. Making your pick to win the derby, now that’s where the real excitement is.

This year picking a clear cut favourite at the Kentucky Derby is a bit of a crapshoot. Uncle Mo had been favoured to run away with it, but after suffering an intestinal illness and a less than stellar performance at the Wood Memorial earlier this month, Uncle Mo has become a bit of a wildcard.

With so much uncertainty surrounding the race it could be a surprise winner that takes the glory. Then again, if that is the case, then what else is new? I can remember too many times when a longshot sprang out of nowhere to win the derby, so as far as I’m concerned, everything is in the status quo.

Who will be this year’s Mine That Bird?

Some early favourites for the Kentucky Derby include Dialed In, who was trained by Nick Zito and owned by Robert LaPenta and Nehro. Nehro, like Dialed was sired by Mineshaft and both horses close extremely well.

If I had to pick a horse based strictly on its name, the Todd Pletcher trained horse named “Stay Thirsty” is my pick for obvious drinking, gambling and carrying on reasons.
