London Underground (LU) has announced plans to roll out Wi-Fi access across a number of London Underground stations after a successful trial late last year.
Charing Cross was the first tube station where you were able to access Wi-Fi and the trial has been so successful that LU will be installing it at 120 tube stations across the capital of the iGaming world’s extensive underground railway system.
Responding to criticism over safety concerns, a Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson said, “Access to mobile and data networks is already common on many world metros and our customers tell us they would welcome this.
“The majority of the Underground is actually above ground where customers can already use mobile and data services.
“LU has tried and tested procedures in place to deal with unattended items on the Tube.”
The new network will be good news for those in the online gambling industry and will give another boost to a mobile gambling industry that shows no signs of slowing.
It’s particularly significant that this is being installed in the UK as the country outsells the rest of Europe two to one at a time when global sales of smart phones smart phone market is expect to reach 650m by 2016.
There have also already been reports that, as a gift, a Chinese firm would install a mobile phone network on certain lines running to the Olympic site in Stratford, which would signal the first time that mobiles have been usable in the London underground. There’s obviously a long way to go yet but the fact that mobile and internet networks are being planned for the tube can only be a good sign for the online gambling industry
So, the next time you try and make a really bad joke about how you made all your money whilst on London’s underground system people might just have to believe you. Not that there were any jokes in the first place just that…well…you get the picture.
