New mothers are having a right old knees up on behalf of the government if a newly released report is anything to go by.
Apparently, mums-to-be and new mothers have been using vouchers given to them for fruit, vegetables, and halth food to essentially have a lot more fun than you can have with a load of fruit.
Instead of fruit, they’ve been spending it on cigarettes and alcohol and in the process flicking V signs at whoever from the coalition wants to take their bottle of Lambrini off them, while chuckling about a free £300 stash of alcohol.
The story was carried by The Sunday Telegraph a Department of Health spokesperson telling them, “Healthy Start gives help to the most disadvantaged in our society. More than half a million pregnant women, babies and small children in very low income and disadvantaged families benefit from the programme.
“Voucher misuse is rare and is dwarfed by the benefits. We are working with retailers to drive it down still further. We issue over 2.6 million vouchers a month and get less than 15 reports a month of retailers accepting vouchers for products that are not included in the scheme. We follow all of these up.”
Obviously fraudulently using vouchers to get alcohol is, in a word, illegal but if the shops accept the vouchers then it’s hardly their fault – they just want to party like the rest of us!
