Mixing it up

charlie sheenThere’s just some things that don’t go well with certain types of alcohol. There’s even certain types of alcohol that generally shouldn’t be mixed unless you’re willing to pay the price. For some of us that’s a heavy price to pay.

TMZ reported that Charlie Sheen made another high profile, emergency hospital trip…again. Sometimes I wonder if TMZ just follows Charlie Sheen around. Of course they do, they follow everyone around like professional stalkers.

According to TMZ, Sheen had been partying all night, and we can only infer that it was typical Sheen style of drinking and carrying on and a little extra. He was susbsequently stretchered into an ambulance the following morning in the AM.

Perhaps Sheen mixed the wrong types of alcohol or mixed the wrong type of “candy” with booze, who knows?. It can happen to anyone. We’ve all heard the sayings. “Grape before grain, what, are you fucking insane?” Or, “Beer before liquor will only make you sicker. And liquor before beer, you’re in the clear.” If you’re highly susceptible to hangovers, these are words to live by. But it’s not just mixing the wrong types of booze that can end your night.

It’s been said that even certain types of meat mixed with alcohol can have adverse effects. As a general rule of thumb, I’ve heard that the color of the meat should generally match the color of the wine you’re consuming. Just how much science actually backs this up is questionable, I know people can eat anything and drink anything and still have a wonderful night. Know yourself.

Granted, as industry professionals we love to party and have a good time, but we also like to enjoy life as in, staying alive. Generally there’s just some things that shouldn’t be mixed with booze. For people on perscription meds, if you don’t already know this, listen up. As a general rule ask your doctor if it’s safe to consume alcohol with your prescription medicine. Additionally, if you’re on Lexapro, Zoloft or Lithium you may be putting yourself at risk if you’re planning on consuming large amounts of booze. Play it safe, don’t ask a friend or look it up on the web and don’t just take my word for it, ask a medical professional!
