If like me, you were left standing in bewilderment at fancy dress parties over the past year as everyone else came dressed as futuristic smurfs, then you may have a few more years to worry about yet.
It might not have won the Oscar for best picture, but James Cameron’s epic, Avatar, is set to see a sequel and a three-quel over the next five years as it joins the fight to become THE trilogy.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly at the Producers Guild awards, he said: “I am in the process of writing the next two Avatar films now,” said Cameron. “We are planning to shoot them together and post them together, and we will probably release them not quite back to back, but about a year apart. Christmas ’14 and ’15 is the current plan.”
By that reckoning, you have until 2014 to perfect your suit so that it can last for at least three years worth of Halloween, New Years Eve, and just general fancy dress parties. You could be all-original and go as something completely different but who wants to stick from the crowd, eh?
Although, seeing as though it didn’t end up winning best picture at the Oscar’s, which other near misses could also turn into crazes at dress up parties?
If you look back at the history of the awards, usually it’s the runners up that create characters to dress up as at parties. Star Wars never won a gong for best picture and everyone loves dressing up as Darth Vader et al, so is coming a close second in fact better than winning the thing?
We’ll find out the nominees later this afternoon, but I can’t imagine many parties will become Mark Zuckerberg infested any time soon.
