queen-unveils-new-years-honoursIf the Queen’s New Years Honours list included those that share the buzz cut hair-do that Bart Simpson sports, our earlier prediction that Simon Cowell would play his part in the list would have been up there. Not because he was presenting it on live TV with the Queen sitting on a judging panel as the contestants made tits of them on live TV. Apparently, he was actually favourite to win one of the awards – I’d rather Zack De La Rocha had won if it was I choosing the winners.

Thankfully, Cowell hasn’t wound up with anything approaching an invite to the Palace, and instead they’ve gone to people who probably deserve it a lot more than him.

Included in the list is musician Annie Lennox, receiving an OBE for her work fighting Aids and poverty in Africa, and Howard Webb, picking up an MBE for a year in which he officiated the UEFA Champions League Final and the World Cup Final in South Africa. Graeme McDowell gained the same accolade for his major win and sinking of the final putt in Europe’s Ryder Cup triumph.

One man who may become a fixture in the gaming industry in the near future, Martin Broughton, will now be addressed as Sir as he will be knighted by the Queen, which he hopes will kick start his bid for the Tote.

Last but by no means least, and one that will be very close to the hearts of most modern men in the United Kingdom, was the OBE that went to Miles Jacobson. Who’s he I hear you cry? Well anyone that played the old Championship Manager games, or in its current carnation Football Manager, should be eternally in this guy’s debt. After creating perhaps the most addictive thing since crack cocaine came on the market, he obviously FedEx’d the Queen over a copy. Why else did she have.
