More college kids paying tuition with online gambling winnings

The University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Adolescent Communication Institute recently conducted a phone survey of people between the ages of 14 and 22 which questioned the high-school and college-aged kids about their experiences with online gambling.

What they found was that 16 percent of college-aged males frequent online gambling sites on a semi-regular basis, a number up dramatically from the 4.8 percent observed in a similar study from 2008. In addition, more than 400,000 college dudes have been found to hit the virtual tables each week, and roughly 1.7 million do it each month.

The big winner for the demographic was online poker, as players drawn by the glitz and glamour of the World Series of Poker try to be the next Tom Dwan, forgetting that the kid loses almost as much as he wins.
