Okay, we’re including this video for a number of reasons. First, it’s a slow news day. Second, it’s funny as hell. Third, we were just wondering, if you learned that the guy who took the biggest pot at your weekly home poker night turned out to be gay, would it destroy your poker pals’ unit cohesion?
While the Senate never got around to passing online poker legislation, they did manage to pass legislation on Wednesday to repeal the ridiculous “don’t ask, don’t tell” ban on openly gay members of US military forces. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to learn that the loudest objections to repealing this ban came not from the soldiers in the field, nor the officers overseeing them, but from self-appointed guardians of our morality, like the Family Research Council (FRC). The FRC have not given up this fight, of course, promising to lobby congressional officials about “statutory and legislative oversight steps that can be taken to turn back aspects of the repeal.”
These are the same moral ‘authorities’ that seek to protect us from ourselves by preventing us from spending our entertainment dollars on an online gambling site. They do so by spreading misinformation such as “internet gambling activities exemplify the most dangerous aspects of gambling … gambling sites also provide a ready mechanism for criminals to illicitly transfer or launder money quickly, secretly and with a low chance of detection.”
To which we say, fuck ‘em. Fuck ‘em in the ass. Oh, and Merry Christmas.
