Future UK pornography may be like ordering a Chinese

porn-chinese-menuIf you live in the UK, it’s likely that the persistent snowfall isn’t entertainment anymore. If it hasn’t made you think about leaving, some news on the “entertainment” front might be about to change your mind.

Even if you can’t get out of the capital right now, London’s the centre of the iGaming universe so it shouldn’t be worrying you one bit. Ring around your industry friends and go grab a beer or 12. The government will soon be making it even harder for you to stay in and amuse yourself so this might be the course of action to take.

Over the weekend, the government looked to have added another notch to their no fun bedpost in a move that doesn’t look good for the voyeurs amongst us. Actually given the context it definitely wouldn’t be a bedpost…maybe more of an innocuous looking reporters notebook.

Pornography is the current bee in their bonnet and as such the Department for Culture, Communications, and Creative Industries, in particular the “3-C’s” Minister Ed Vaizey, is planning a blanket ban so that we can protect the children from the evils of this part of the internet.

The article, in The Sunday Times, suggests that at a meeting in January they will ask Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to think over proposals that would mean users would have to ask their ISPs for access to porn.

Whether or not you’d actually have to ask them for the type of porn you wanted to access from some kind of list is unknown, but it conjures up the image of a menu like that from a Chinese takeaway with numbers next to each service. This obviously comes before the complete blanket ban on all alcohol before the coup de grace – a ban on gambling.

The key here though – pornography doesn’t make them any money, whereas alcohol and gambling fill their bottomless pots. The solution – state owned pornography Production Company.
