The event which is set to “define our generation” has now been given a date. I’m not talking about Calvin Ayre’s 50th – that already has a date set! It’s the wedding of the century so far and doesn’t involve either of the two stars of The Simple Life.
After all the predictions on when it would take place, the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton is set for Friday 29th April 2011 at London’s Westminster Abbey. Observers had predicted a summer wedding, but even though it’s at the end of April, it’s likely the weather will be better than late-August, if recent years are anything to go by.
The best part about all of this is that the public will be treated to a three-day working week thanks to the Bank Holiday Monday that precedes the event. Gamblers shouldn’t be fearful though – there are still plenty of markets to be had.
William Hill are offering odds on anything from what colour the Queen’s hat will be – current favourite Blue at 3/1 – to where they will Honeymoon – Butlins at the particularly long odds of 1500/1. Obviously Butlins has been put in there for comedy value, but what better way than to make the nation feel even more enamored to you than to holiday in the wind and rain of Bognor Regis. Actually maybe we should back pedal on that slightly. How about a weekend in Margate?
