If you find out that a prominent former MP has been using eBay to flog stuff you’d probably think to yourself that they’re fairly hard-up. Maybe the person in question needs a bit of extra cash to build that new duck house they set their heart on long ago? This is all before you find out that the eBay account is registered to the home address of none other than former PM Tony Blair. Get the tabloids on the phone straight away. EXCLUSIVE! EXCLUSIVE!
It’s even more amusing when you learn that it’s his wife, Cherie Blair, that’s been doing the selling. The item in question is a square of paper that was inserted into the front page of each set of memoirs that was “signed” by Tony when it was released last month. As far as the auction itself…well that went off with the mandatory hitches you’d expect. First, it was on offer at £25. Then it was down to £20, £10 the fire sale price that it was finally sold for.
Cherie’s excuse was that she was trying to show up eBay for what it is. We’ve got another theory altogether. Sitting at home must be rather boring for Cherie and after seeing an upsurge in women using gambling sites, this must be where she’s spending her days. Using up all her allowance already Cherie immediately sold the first thing that came to hand and here we are. The UK’s Internet economy isn’t growing as fast as it is for no reason.
