Betfair releases ordinary shares for the ordinary people

LSEYou’d have thought that Betfair would have given up after finding out John McCririck was on their side. Can you really think of anything better than a man who looks like he should be running for the Monster Raving Looney’s supporting your cause? Apparently he also knows a bit about horse racing as well, and that would be rather beneficial in this case.

The reason McCririck was so peeved at the BHA slighting Betfair had to do with the IPO that landed last week and a certain member of the BHA buying those shares. Now comes the big one in terms of share dealings.

The pièce de résistance is Betfair’s decision to today begin trading ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). Betfair Group plc’s ordinary share capital will amount to 106,935,448 shares and have now been admitted to the Official List of the UK Listing Authority. Shares will be trading on the LSE’s main market for listed securities. If anyone, including the aforementioned BHA chairman Paul Roy, would like to buy a piece of Betfair, they’re listed under the ticker “BET” and will cost around the £15 mark.

With a load more money pouring in, it remains to be seen what type of a present they may decide to buy themselves. John McCririck novelty hat and wig sets should be made a must for all employees though.
