It’s a story that’s making headlines all over the net, it’s a sad story, but it’s not without its own sense of sick and twisted irony. The owner of Segway, you know, those motorized doohickeys that scoot about, well owner sixty year old James W. Heselden, who took over control of the Segway company earlier this year was killed when he accidentally drove his Segway off a cliff while driving around on his estate some 140 miles from London. Segways aren’t legal on roads and pathways in London, but they are on private property, this accident probably won’t help change that.
Twisted I know. But it begs the question, how dangerous are those things? Some of us may remember back in 2003 when the Segway Human Transporter made the news a year after its invention when US president Bush fell off of one. But that was Bush, and no one really blamed the Segway for that one. He probably mishandled it, much in the same way he did the economy, which not coincidentally, also crashed under his control.
It might make you think twice about getting on one of those things, they’re obviously not as easy to handle as you would think they are. Although, on the streets of Prague, Calvin Ayre handled his Segway like Segway professional!
