At what point can Americans say enough is enough, Congress is allowing themselves to be made to look comical? Perhaps that point is reached when a comedian testifies WHILE IN CHARACTER at a congressional hearing. How is that not a joke?
Stephen Colbert made a mockery of the congressional subcommittee hearing this morning, at which he testified on current plight of migrant farm workers. Colbert was pure jokes from the start, in his opening statement he fired off several jab shots at Congress and U.S. immigration policy, but forgot to touch on ONLINE GAMBLING.
Colbert was in true form, at one point, mocking past Republican statements, he remarked,
“I don’t want a tomato picked by a Mexican, I want it picked by an American,” he then added, “And sliced by a Guatemalan, and served by a Venezuelan, in a spa, where a Chilean gives me a Brazilian.” Colbert concluded, “Maybe it’s better to have fruits that pick themselves.”
It seems like Congress really loves the media circus. How else can you explain allowing a comedian to stay in character and testify on real and very serious issues, and then of course there was that whole steroids and baseball thing, which was completely unecessary for Congress to be involved in. But hey, on the bright side for Congress, at least it’s good entertainment. Check out Colbert in action.
