China anti-vulgarity gaming laws go into effect Sunday

Those Chinese anti-vulgarity gaming laws take effect on Sunday, which means game developers can no longer … um, … Well, it’s not entirely clear. Like most morality-based edicts, the specfics of just what is considered ‘vulgar’ or ‘obscene’ is a moving target. The answer depends on which law enforcement official, judge or politician you have the good or bad luck to encounter. In that respect, it’s a lot like gambling, which is supposed to be illegal in China, isn’t it? The laws also require gaming companies to figure out ways of limiting youth exposure to their products — just a suggestion, but I hear pole dancing is all the rage with kids nowadays. Read more.
