Ladbrokes turning betting shops into call centers

While rival William Hill is shuttering its call centers and shipping the phones and their operators to Gibraltar, Ladbrokes is taking a different tack. Realizing that business at their vast network of betting shops was slackening, Ladbrokes has decided to train their under-employed shop staff to pick up the bloody phone once in a while, and thus supplement its existing call center in London. The scheme is currently being tried out in 180 shops, and will be expanded to the full 2,000 outlets in due course. Precisely when and where these new dual-function ever-ready employees will be allowed to take a piss has yet to be decided. Read more.
