Reasons to be cheerful

For the first time ever, football fans in Russia will be allowed to make bets at stadiums next month.

In another example of how betting and sport can operate hand in hand, the new understanding between the Russian Premier Liga Stavok and the League of Betting, will see bookmakers directing half of their income towards the development of football.

In terms of betting tax, 50% is not exactly small beer, but I guess operators are taking the same view as those who have set up shop in France’s new liberated gambling market; it’s a starting point. A pretty fucking punitive starting point, admittedly. But it beats doing bird in Siberia. Read me.
