Work hard and play hard, that’s what they call it, but not everyone keeps it together. Sometimes living the life of gambling and drinking and carrying on can digress into living the lie, of having no money, no job, no income, no friends and a drinking problem. Former AFL star Demon David Schwarz found out just how slippery that slope can be. But what do AFL cats know? For us industry professionals, most of us deal with addiction on a regular basis, whether it be with our clients or with our friends or at times, let’s be honest, with ourselves. For instance, I’m addicted to Madden, Vodka Redbulls and threesomes with Filipino girls, but somehow I manage to keep it together, albeit one day at a time.

Daddy's back girls!
That’s why it’s tough for many gambling industry professionals to sympathize with a colossal fuck up. Sure we understand, but we fail to accept excuses. We party harder than anyone else but you can bet your ass that we’re still up in time for work the next day…Well…for the most part that is true…There are those days when you catch that 24 hour flu bug and hits you like crazy and you just can’t make it in…Right. But you’ll be in tomorrow fresh as fuck and wearing your keener face, it’s all good.
Sometimes the staff parties have a long tail. By that I mean, you get a group of us industry professionals partying together one night, next thing you know that staff party gets extended for the next three days into a drinking binge, whoo! Keep the good times rolling! But as always, people, don’t we always know when enough is enough and when it’s time to get back to work? It’s like there’s a party meter in the back of every industry professionals head, and as soon as it’s in the red, we get that signal like “ If I go any further, I’m missing work tomorrow”…
For those of us who have ignored that party meter one too many times it has a new alarm on it that signals something more along the lines of “If I go any further, I’m losing my job tomorrow”, ahh, rookies.
