After a whirlwind of commotion, where the Cypriot government kept changing their mind on the online gambling issue, a bill has finally been passed on the Mediterranean island.
The bill will outlaw all online gambling on casino type games such as roulette, poker, and fruit machines, but interestingly will still allow strictly regulated gambling on sports events. It also sees the set up of a gaming board to regulate betting.
Finance Minister Charilaos Stavrakis seems to have taken the same hard-line as the Aussies, commenting: “It is a very important bill, which tries to resolve a problem that has developed into a social scourge in recent years.” By not banning everything, surely it’s still going to cause problems though?
