PokerStars signs Argentina footballer Juan Sebastian Veron

South America is fertile ground for online gaming prospectors and PokerStars has signalled its intent by signing Argentina international Juan Sebastien Veron as its latest ambassador. Estudiantes midfielder Veron, who made his name in Serie A with Lazio before playing for Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter Milan, has been voted South American Player of the Year for the last two years running and is hugely popular in his homeland, which makes him a superb acculturation target for PokerStars.

The online operator has also timed the announcement of the deal perfectly to gain maximum exposure while Veron, known as the ‘Little Witch’, is pulling the strings of Argentina’s so far impressive World Cup campaign. If Fabio Capello were coaching the Argies he would be furious at this sort of non-footballing distraction, but given that Diego Maradona is in charge, the Little Witch is probably up in Diego’s room as we speak playing High Stakes Texas Hold’Em and enjoying a few lines of yay-yo.
