Do WSOP numbers suggest Texas Hold ‘Em’s appeal has peaked?

While Texas Hold ‘Em has been the chief engine driving poker’s popularity over the last decade, figures from this year’s World Series of Poker show that the number of entrants for Hold ‘Em events hasn’t changed much since 2009, meaning the increase in the number of entrants observed at this year’s WSOP is largely made up of players seeking other versions of poker, such as Omaha or Stud. Is this a statistical anomaly, the beginning of a new trend, or merely players trying to find a game where Hold ‘Em’s predatory pros aren’t so prevalent? Read more.
