Horseracing can gain from closure of law loopholes
UK racing’s demand that bookmakers pay £150 million a year into the horseracing levy is a bit rich. As the linked article explains, racing is no longer the main meal on the bookies menu anymore, so it has no right to take a cut from the other services betting shops provide, such as their Fixed Odds Betting Terminals. But that doesn’t mean that the sport of kings is bound for the knackers yard – or that there aren’t loopholes that can’t be closed to benefit racing, like banning offshore operators from advertising their businesses in Britain.
