The decision to drop the five-variation H.O.R.S.E. event from this year’s WSOP in favor of an eight-variation Poker Player’s Championship was done largely at the request of ESPN, who claimed some of the H.O.R.S.E. variants were hard for viewers at home to follow. The change isn’t sitting well with the multifaceted Doyle Brunson, who refers to H.O.R.S.E. as the ‘true barometer’ of a well-rounded poker player. Well, that and a well-rounded bank roll.
