The gambling industry is always criticized, sometimes unfairly, for the ill –effects it has on society. While some health officials are quick to point their latex fingers at the gambling industry for all of society’s problems, that same finger is nowhere to be found when the industry lends a helping hand.
You seldom hear the health officials of extremist groups congratulating the gambling industry for its contributions to several positive causes in society. In places like British Columbia Canada, the gambling industry not only provides entertainment to residents but provides significant amounts of funding for many social programs that would otherwise struggle without the contributions of the industry.
Charitable contributions are just another way the gambling industry gives back to those who need it most. Numerous poker tournaments are played each year with the proceeds going towards charitable causes. Just last February, The Sharon Osborne Colon Cancer Foundation Charity Poker Tournament raised money for a disease that effects so many North Americans. And just last March, Absolute Poker celebrity endorser and super hot babe Trishelle Cannatella co-hosted the V Foundation Charity Poker Tournament which in its 17 years of running has raised over $90 million.
Recently Jennifer Harman, known for her charitable work, was at it again raising money for kidney disease in a charity poker game. Read more.
It can’t be disputed the amount of attention and awareness that the gambling industry through charitable events is able to generate towards worthy social causes. You would think that before opponents of the gambling industry step up to criticize the industry for all the “ills” they claim it causes, they might want to look at the positive contributions the industry is making towards society and to those unfortunate people who need assistance the most.
As poker and online poker continues to grow and thrive, and as more and more people begin to play the game, charity poker games for good causes will undoubtedly continue to grow in popularity. After all, the best part about losing in money in a charity poker game is that even when you lose you win, not only that, everyone wins the more everyone loses. Sounds like perfect harmony to me.
