Horse racing’s decimal experiment baffles Ascot punters

MathDoesn'tSuckIt appears that the experiment with decimal-based odds at Ascot has been judged an abject failure after just one day in operation. The five bookmakers who made the switch from fractions to decimals reported sharp drops in wagering volume, despite increased crowds brought in by Racing For Change’s free admission promotion. Time will tell whether this is just opening night jitters or whether bookmakers will be sufficiently chastened by punter confusion to revert to the system their grandfathers would recognize.
