Betting on butting: Is Nigerian ram fighting cruel or cool?

I don’t think there are too many people who feel that forcing two chickens with blades tied to their feet to fight is acceptable behavior. But what about two rams butting heads? After all, it’s not fatal to either contestant, and it’s something these animals would be freely engaging in out in the wild, with no one else watching except the ewe that the winner would then get to fuck.
